Hi all,

A few of Sami’s work-in-progress images got into Nevercenter’s October Gallery. In case someone still wonder’s what Silo is, it’s a very fast polygon modeling tool for just that pure task, makes life easier when you have to adjust shape of characters or create something new.

Track Day

Hi all,

This new image is called “Track Day”, I hope the image conveys the feeling of a sunday afternoon or such at a race track…

I modeled character in 3dsmax, it is based on my relatively new base mesh I’ve made to help creating characters. Face and body textures were created in photoshop. I used old photos I shot sometime last year and earlier to create audience textures and also the wall texture etc.

There’s no post work on character or scene, except color correction and glow etc typical corrections to make image more dynamic.

Motorcycle and backdrop scene were also modeled in 3dsmax. Lighting is just mostly for character and there’s one keylight for sunlight.

Audience was made with a low res mesh that was displacement mapped with gray scale bump map I painted, roughly so that they got displaced into recognizable shape and more importantly catch light a lot better than 2d clip maps.

Studio shots of the character can be found in gallery.

Track Day - Studio

Here’s a small update – I made more detailed clothes + fixed shaders a bit and of course made shaders for a few parts off clothing that didn’t exist earlier… I also had to adjust skinning so that clothes don’t deform too unnaturally.

Here’s the link to full size render.
Here’s different camera angle and pose.

Hiya!

Another update today – Here’s a link to a gladiator model I’ve been crafting in last few weeks every now and then, adding details to armor and body. Soon this will be in state where I can start painting displacement maps and textures etc. I’ve been also posting updates to threads in Silo forum and Polycount.

Hiya!

Here’s a new anatomy study I’ve been working on for a few nights – A human skull. It’s not surface only, there’s interior and all parts have proper volume and most of the major canals and openings are modeled too. This will probably be used later in some rendering… Click image or link below to get to a page with more detailed information and images!

Friday, October 1st, 2004

Hello there!

Today and yesterday nice packages dropped in from mail slot in door – Finally “Elemental” books arrived here from Ballistic Publishing! I don’t usually post materialistic stuff at all – I bet 99.999% of population couldn’t care less what toys etc. you have, there are bit more important things in the world… Anyway – Print quality is top notch and colors are vibrant, I was really pleased how my image was printed and also many of my favourite images by other artists. Excellent work, Ballistic Publishing guys!
